URSACK BEAR BAG
I was looking into Bear canisters, then remembered the URSACK. Lighter than any other option. I will add to this a very loud and obnoxious bell I have from my daughter. Adds another 5.4oz, but will scare the be-geber's out of any critter. Like wake the dead if there around! And also can double as emergency signaling device.
Also recently camped in an area with tall trees, pines with no limbs to hang bear bag. The URSACK should be the answer. It can be hung but is not required to be hung.

Also using Loksak Opsak 12x20 Inch Storage Bag
Along with being 100% water and air tight, the OPSAK (Odor Proof SAK) is also a 100% odor barrier bag.
URSACK is 7.8 oz with the bell 13.2 oz, Much lighter than any Bear Canister at 3 lbs. Not to mention the size and the room in the pack!
As you consume the food the URSACK will get smaller, in like the solid canister.

The Ursack S29.3 AllWhite (IGBC cert. no. 3738) is made of “bullet proof” Spectra fabric and is designed to prevent bears from getting your food in their territory. It comes with an integrated six foot, 2,500 pound tensile strength cord. The AllWhite weighs 7.8 ounces. It is about 24 inches in circumference (<8″ dia.), 14 inches tall and holds about 650 cubic inches (10.6 Liters). If packed only with freeze dried food, it will hold 37 servings of breakfast, lunch and dinner–six days of food for two people Video: how much food fits? (or 57 tennis balls–see the picture). The AllWhite does not come with an odor barrier bag (OPSak) or an aluminum liner. Both must be purchased separately. Without the optional aluminum liner, your food may be crushed, ripped or punctured. Or, it may not: Bear in Camp: How Did the Ursack Perform? We highly recommend OPSak, which is designed to always be used inside the AllWhite. While the AllWhite is critter resistant, the Ursack Minor may be better suited for that task. The newest version (which is the only version we sell) of the AllWhite made since about April 1, 2015, dubbed the S29.3, has a tighter weave and more than double the tear strength of previous models. There is no good way to test its critter resistance, but so far it has been excellent. Pictured here with and without optional aluminum liner. The Ursack with improved Spectra seams (beginning April 2014) passed the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee test and was placed on its bear-resistant products list on July 31, 2014. That list is the one relied on by many, but not all, wilderness agencies, and restrictions may still apply–check first. See FAQs.
Limited Lifetime Warranty. We will replace, or refund the cost of, any properly used Ursack S29.3 AllWhite in which a gap, tear or hole larger than 1/4 inch is caused by a bear. This 1/4 inch standard is the criteria used in the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee’s test protocol. We ask that customers return any damaged Ursack to us for inspection. For more information about the risk from raccoons and other critters, see FAQs.
Note: Due to the difficulty in weaving high tech Spectra, our supplier is not always able to deliver pristine white fabric (the only color available). Your Ursack may arrive with minor cosmetic blemishes. You won’t see these once you have used Ursack in the wilderness, and these in no way compromise the performance of the product.
