Intro to hiking with my Grandson!

I'm currently trying to work out a trip to introduce, my 13 year old grandson into Hiking / Backpacking. During the upcoming Spring Break I need to plan an exciting trip with just the right mix of distance, with out stressing an inexperienced young man.

It will be on the FLTrail likely 2 days & 2 night at first.

URSACK BEAR BAG

]

I was looking into Bear canisters, then remembered the URSACK. Lighter than any other option. I will add to this a very loud and obnoxious bell I have from my daughter. Adds another 5.4oz, but will scare the be-geber's out of any critter. Like wake the dead if there around! And also can double as emergency signaling device.

Also recently camped in an area with tall trees, pines with no limbs to hang bear bag. The URSACK should be the answer. It can be hung but is not required to be hung.

Ursack S29.3 Bear Resistant Sack Bag

Also using Loksak Opsak 12x20 Inch Storage Bag Along with being 100% water and air tight, the OPSAK (Odor Proof SAK) is also a 100% odor barrier bag.

URSACK is 7.8 oz with the bell 13.2 oz, Much lighter than any Bear Canister at 3 lbs. Not to mention the size and the room in the pack!

As you consume the food the URSACK will get smaller, in like the solid canister.

Be sure to check the related link.

Hiking around Hopkins prairie, I turned off trail for about 1/2 mile. Then into the small stand of Oaks to setup camp. Then went out to collect fire wood, whoosh tent vanished. I hid it so good I had trouble finding it.
:sm

So when I finally found it I hung my bright blue shirt on it.

Embrace the smell and the 3 B's

Just embrace :Happy the smell, do not try to cover your smell up with sweet smelling deodorant, after shave, perfume. Also avoid the scented, body wipes, hand sanitizer.

And don't attract the Bears, Bees, and Buzzing critters. Most wild life will be attracted to all the sweet smelling things. Enjoy you back country trip.
